You’re interested in hiring me for an animated production, but you’re not sure where to start, or how this all works – and that’s why you’ve clicked on this page.

For starters, I offer different kinds of animation-related services. Click on the one you’re looking for to scroll to the correct section automatically:

Complete animation packages; a complete animated film based on your script, notes or storyboard.

-Storyboarding; a partial or complete storyboard based on your script or notes.

Inbetweening; filling in the gaps between your keyframes and turning them into smooth animations.

Complete animation packages

The complete animation packages I offer also come in different flavours, based on your needs. They all, however start the same:

A simple e-mail. Directly to mailto:contact@pan-tastique.com or through the form on the bottom of the page. All you have to do is fill in your name, e-mail, whether you’re an individual or representing a company (this is important for your invoice), and a quick description of what you’re looking for.

The description doesn’t have to be detailed, but the general concept should be in there.

Important questions to answer:

  1. What’s the animation for? (Event/company/occasion, etc: mention if it’s commercial or not)
  2.  What are you trying to achieve?
  3. Are you looking to get a storyboard done, or do you need a full animation from scratch?
  4. Do you have a script, a full storyboard or just some notes?
  5. How long would the animation need to be?
  6. Do you need any music/voice work done? (In case of voice work: please include whether it’s a voice over or dialogue. If dialogue, include the ages/genders and + number of characters to be voiced)

After you’ve sent me this info, we can get started! I might need some additional info, but if you’ve answered at least the above questions, I should be able to quote you in a general range right away.

I will provide you the following:

-General quote for the animation or storyboard;

-General quote for (in case of storyboard) an animatic without audio and an animatic with audio. These are two separate quotes;

-General quote for licensed music. Note that the above quote for the animatic would be for voice work only.

If you mention you need voice work or music done ahead of time, I’ll reach out to my network to see if anyone might suit your project. I will work directly with them, and can potentially introduce you if you’d like so you can get an idea of whom you’re working with. Throughout the project we can keep in touch through e-mail. The feedback rounds will be done either through a video call or e-mail (whichever fits your schedule; don’t worry that ‘one e-mail = one feedback round’; I will give you some time to come up with points you might have missed and tell you when time’s up to provide feedback).

Then comes the fun part; production. And this is where the process gets different.

What is your answer to 3? Click to go to the right section.

I need to get a storyboard and/or animatic done.

I just need some rough animation. (Also read the storyboard section.)

I need a basic animation done.(Also read the previous two sections.)

I need a fully edited and composited animation done. (Also read the previous three sections.)

-I need to get a storyboard done.

In that case, we’ll get right on with that. If you have a script ready, just send it to me and I’ll get on with it. Descriptions of characters featured are helpful, premade character designs even better – you’ll have to excuse any creative liberties I might take if you don’t provide either.

If you don’t have a script yet, we’ll start there. I’ll need at least some notes from you and what the animation’s supposed to be about.

I’ll set up a rough draft, which I’ll send to you for feedback. I’ll edit the script according to your suggestions, after which there’ll be one more feedback round – after that, anything that’s been approved, is final.

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional script feedback rounds are 45 EUR each.

After that, it’s storyboard time. The first rough storyboard will have nothing but dialogue, action notes and stick figures with expressions. It’ll be delivered in PDF. If anything’s unclear during this stage, do not hesitate to ask. You can suggest changes to this draft three times in three feedback rounds.

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional rough storyboard feedback rounds start from 50 EUR each.

After the rough storyboards are approved, I’ll clean them up and finalize them, delivering them in both PDF and video format. You get two feedback rounds here.

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional final storyboard feedback rounds start from 55 EUR each.

Afterwards, you can request the storyboard be turned into an animatic. I will quote you for this in my initial e-mail to you, so you’ll know whether or not this fits in your budget before we even start writing the script. An animatic is a video version of the storyboard coloured in in greyscale, with limited animation (more than in the storyboard) and optional audio. I’ll quote you for an animatic with and without demo dialogue recordings ahead of time, so you will know whether or not this fits within your budget. This animatic also has two feedback rounds.

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional animatic feedback rounds start from 65 EUR each.

-I need some rough animation done (or we just finished the storyboard).

If you already have a storyboard ready or had me make one for your rough animation, it’s time for this step. Please note that storyboards made for my personal use will be rougher than a storyboard meant to be used by someone else. This has to do with how I work personally (I don’t have to take anyone else into account), and to make the process faster and cheaper. If you want a clean, proper, industry-standard storyboard when purchasing rough animation, it’ll cost extra.

Rough animation will be done in three phases; rough keyframes, inbetweening and ‘clean up’. The first two will be done with stick figures acting out the motion, the latter phase will be when your characters will take shape.

Keyframes are ‘A’ and ‘B’; a beginning pose and end pose, sometimes one or two poses in-between, to get an idea of how the movement will flow. Inbetweening means exactly what you think; filling in the gaps between the poses.

Keyframes have two feedback rounds, rough animation and clean up each have three.

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional rough animation feedback rounds start from 75 EUR each.

-I need a basic animation done (or we just completed the rough animation).

Next off is the basic animation, the second most complex complete package I offer. This involves a full animation, coloured in and cleaned up, but without any special effects.

After the previous stage has been approved, I will clean up the animation with outlines. Since this will look the same as the previous stage, you get one feedback round to make sure everything looks as expected.

At this point, you can still choose to switch to coloured lines, for 50 EUR extra per second of animation. If you chose this ahead of time, you won’t be charged extra (it’ll be calculated in).

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional final clean up rounds start from 85 EUR each.

After the animation has been cleaned up, we’ll get to colouring. You can provide me with colours I should use through references, character designs, mood boards, and descriptions. If you don’t, you will have to excuse my artistic liberties.

Since this is simple flat colouring without shading or special effects, you will have one feedback round at your disposal.

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional final colour feedback rounds start from 75 EUR each.

-I need a fully edited and composited animation done (or we’re finalizing the animation).

Editing is the final stage of the animation. This is done in several steps.

-Effects animation: Done in TVPaint and After Effects, depending on the nature of the effect. Shading, lighting, sparks, fire, the works. Anything that requires more than a flat colour. You get five feedback rounds to adjust the special effects.

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional final colour feedback rounds start from 95 EUR each.

-Compositing: Flat colours are known as ‘local colours’. To adjust the mood of a scene, you have to adjust the lighting. You get two feedback rounds to make sure the mood is just right.

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional compositing feedback rounds start from 90 EUR each.

-Editing: Stitching the animation together. Technically this is part of compositing, but I see it as a separate stage. This will be done in either Premiere or Sony Vegas, and you’ll have two feedback rounds to make sure the soundtrack, SFX, video and voice work line up perfectly the way you want it.

Additional feedback rounds can be requested, at extra cost. Additional final editing rounds start from 45 EUR each.

Long story short:

-We get in touch over video call and e-mail. Initially over e-mail.

-I can write your script for you for an extra fee.

-I can get you voice actors and licensed music for an extra fee.

-I can make a storyboard and turn it into an animatic for an extra fee.

-You get a limited amount of feedback rounds (up to 28 for a full script-to-edit project), so use them wisely.

-Extra feedback rounds can be requested for an extra fee.

-The more info you give me during our initial contact, the cheaper your project will be.

-The more info you give me during our initial contact, the faster your project will be produced.

-I work with TVPaint, After Effects, Premiere, and Sony Vegas.

-Communication is key in my line of work; the more passionate you are about your project, the more I can make that passion shine.

Storyboard

In that case, we’ll get right on with that. I’m available to do full storyboards as well as loose panels in a bigger board. Which one are you looking for?

-Full storyboard;

-Loose panels.

Loose panels.

For loose panels, I charge a flat rate for 40 USD or 35 EUR an hour. If you have a script ready, just send it to me and I’ll get back to you with a quote.

Inbetweening

For inbetweening, I have two options:

A flat rate of 70 USD or 65 EUR per second (24 frames), OR a flat rate of 40 USD or 35 EUR an hour. If you have keyframes ready, just send them to me and I’ll get back to you with a quote.

Please note: I work in TVPaint, so PSD and TVPP would work best.
